At the same time, the total income to the world economy from tourism increased by 6.8% in 2017 – and this is a record figure for the world. And although Asian countries are successfully fighting for the first places in the world tourist ratings, tourists still bring the most money to Europe – in total it earned $519 billion from tourism. The Asia-Pacific region is in second place – tourists spent $390 billion here. In third – the Americas with $326 billion. Next comes the Middle East, which brought in $68 billion from tourism. Africa comes last with only $37 billion.

For reference: as a basis for compiling the top 10 countries by spending, the total amount spent by foreign tourists on transportation, overnight stays in hotels, the purchase of goods and services, etc. was calculated.

According to these data, the first three were headed by the United States – tourism brought them $ 211 billion. This is 16% of the total amount spent by tourists in the world. At the same time, the number of tourists in the United States decreased by almost 4%. However, on the arrival of tourists, the country ranks third. America is followed by Spain , which earned $ 68 billion from tourists. At the same time, it is in second place in the list of arrivals. This is followed by the favorite of the list of tourist arrivals – France , where 87 million tourists come per year. But they leave “only” $61 billion in the country.

Thailand , with $57 billion, and the United Kingdom , with $51 billion, were also in the top five in terms of spending . Italy , Australia , Germany , Macau, and Japan are also in the top 10 . All of them as a whole “take away” about half of all tourism income in the world.

As for the top attendance, here, as already noted, France is the leader, in which 87 million tourists arrived. For a place in the top, it traditionally competes with Spain – which has 82 million. The United States follows, where 76 million tourists arrived. In addition, in the top of arrivals China , which received 61 million tourists and Italy – 58 million. The second five were Mexico , Great Britain and Turkey – where, by the way, 38 million tourists arrived, as well as Germany and Thailand.

At the same time, we recall that Chinese tourists are in the lead in “exporting” money abroad – they spend $ 258 billion abroad on holidays, excursions and souvenirs, which is almost a fifth of all tourist spending in the world. This is followed by travelers from the United States – $135 billion and from Germany – $89.1 billion. By the way, Russia also returned to the top ten most “spending” tourists, rising from 11th place to 8th: in total, Russian tourists spent $31.1, while this amount increased by last year almost 30%.
